LOVE THE CITY – Foodbank Volunteering

In 2023, as part of Praise Centre’s Love The City initiative, our community held a walk-tastic event to raise funds for Foodbank Australia, an organisation that aims to fight hunger by sourcing food for people in need.

All of the funds raised from this event were to bless the community through this charity. Every $1 donated to Foodbank would provide 2 meals, and every $1000 donated would allow our community to send up to 10 of our members to volunteer at Foodbank in 2024.

Thanks to the generosity of those who participated in the Praise Centre Walk-tastic, we raised $3500 for Foodbank Australia!

This year, we are sending up to 20 members of our community to volunteer at Foodbank.

What: There will be two volunteering shifts held this year (8-10 volunteers per shift) at Foodbank Victoria’s warehouse. Our team will be hands on in the warehouse, packing food for distribution to Foodbank’s charity partners across Victoria.

OHS and manual handling requirement: Due to the physical nature of warehouse volunteering, tasks involve manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time. Please consider if this activity is right for you.

Dates: Monday 24 June & Monday 7 Oct, 2024

Time: 8.30am – 2.30pm

Where: 4/2 Somerville Road, Yarraville 3013

The warehouse is located within an industrial complex. Enter the complex at the intersection of Somerville Road and Whitehall Street.

  • Parking – There is free all day parking onsite. If you can’t find a park onsite most of the surrounding side streets have all day parking.
  • Public Transportation – If you’re catching public transport, the warehouse is a 15 minute walk from Seddon or Yarraville station.

What to bring and wear:

  • Lunch – Access to fridge, microwave and tea/coffee facilities are provided. Please note: Lunch break is 30 mins and there are no cafes nearby.
  • Socks – For your safety we provide steel capped boots and gloves which are mandatory to wear. Please bring long, thick socks to wear with the boots. Alternatively, if you have your own steel capped boots you are welcome to BYO.
